Lakeland Apartment Fire 01/01/2021

On Friday January 1st, 2021 at approximately 10:45a, the Lakeland Fire Department was dispatched to a reported apartment fire at the Heatherwood Apartments on Peconic St. Units quickly arrived on scene to find fire on the first and second floors of a 2 story apartment building and a 13/35 was transmitted. The fire quickly broke through the roof and began traveling through the cockloft involving at least 6-8 apartments on the 1st and 2nd floors. At least 6 lines were placed into operation to extinguish the fire which required extensive overhaul by crews on scene including Central Islip, Ronkonkoma, Bohemia, Holbrook, Hauppauge, Holtsville and Nesconset Fire Departments. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. This was the first working fire of 2021 for Nassau & Suffolk Counties.
