2018 Nassau County Fire Commission Awards / Nassau County Firematic Awards
On Sunday, May 20th, the Nassau County Fire Commission in conjunction with the Nassau County Executive hosted the Nassau County Executive Firematic Awards / Nassau County Fire Commission Awards Ceremony at the Nassau County Legislative Building in Mineola. This year, the Fire Commission awarded the Bronze Medal of Valor to 4 firefighters and the County Executive awarded 14 Firematic Awards to members and departments across Nassau County.
The Bronze Medal of Valor was awarded to Garden City Park Lt. Tursi for his actions rescuing a victim from a burning car on December 24th, 2017. The Bronze Medal of Valor was also awarded to Freeport FD Captain Sotira, Ex-Chief Walsh & Ex-Captain Seaman for their actions rescuing a victim from an apartment fire on October 18th, 2017.
The County Executive Firematic Awards were also awarded to the following Firefighters:
Ex-President Ragin - Manhasset Lakeville FD
Hon. Chief Sarnelli - Hicksville FD
Hon. Chief Pease - Hicksville FD
President DaSilva - Mineola FD
Ex-Chief Fitgerald - Carle Place FD
1st Lt. Archipolo - North Massapequa FD
Ex-Chief Bollerman - Port Washington FD
FF/EMT Mohr - Bethpage FD
Hon. Chief Teepe III - New Hyde Park FD
FF Crowley - East Norwich Fire Co.
Ex-Chief Sandas - Hempstead FD
Lt. Buffolino - Westbury FD
Ex-Captain Edell - Rockville Centre FD
Lastly, the Lakeview Fire Department was awarded the County Executive Firematic Award for their lifesaving actions on at a charter bus accident on the Southern State Parkway on April 8th, 2018.
