Plane Down at TOB Solid Waste Disposal Complex 01/10/2021
On Sunday January 10th at approximately 1:05pm, The East Farmingdale Fire Department & Suffolk County Police were dispatched to a reported plane down in vicinity of SUNY Farmingdale. While Suffolk units were en route, a Nassau County Highway Patrol Unit nearby advised saw the plane go down in the vicinity of Sweet Hollow Rd & Winding Road & the Plainview FD was also dispatched. After a brief search, NCPD Units located the downed Cessna 421B next to the former incinerator on the Town of Oyster Bay Solid Waste Disposal Complex, approximately 2.5 miles from Republic Airport. First arriving fire units quickly assessed the situation and found the pilot, the sole occupant of the aircraft, was pinned and required extrication. Mutual Aid Heavy Rescues were requested from Bethpage FD and Melville FD in addition to the Republic Airport Crash Rescue. East Farmingdale Engine 1-5-2 stretched 1 precautionary foam line while fire department crews and NCPD ESU worked to extricate the pilot. The pilot was extricated and transported to a local trauma with unknown injuries. It is reported that the pilot transmitted an emergency for engine failure and was returning back to the airport when the crash occurred.
