Port Washington Building Fire 11/13/2017

At just after 4:15pm, The Port Washington Fire Department was dispatched to a Chiefs Investigation of a water flow alarm at the Amsterdam at Harborside Senior Facility. Upon arrival, units encountered a heavy smoke condition on the 6th floor of the facility and the alarm was upgraded to a General Alarm and subsequently a Signal 10 (Working Fire) by Chief of Department Bryan Vogeley [8500]. Further searches by first due units found the source of the smoke to be a fire in a 6th floor apartment. Crews from Port Washington and Roslyn began a standpipe operation to extinguish the fire while Mutual Aid was requested to assist in the evacuation of all residents. Multiple ambulances were also requested to standby at the scene for any medical emergencies encountered. The fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office.
