West Hempstead House Fire 03/01/2022

On Tuesday, March 1st at 4:37a, the West Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire on Sycamore St, a few houses away from the firehouse. 1st Assistant Chief Lilli [7601] was quickly on the road and advised by Firecom that Police on scene were reporting a working fire. Upon arrival fire was found in the basement of a 2 1/2 story house and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Rescue Engine 762 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire. The fire quickly rose to a 3rd alarm with fire spreading to all floors of the house. At least 4 lines were stretched and placed into operation to extinguish the fire. With the assistance of crews from Lakeview, Elmont, Franklin Square, Uniondale, Hempstead, South Hempstead, Rockville Centre, Lynbrook, Carle Place, East Meadow, & Roosevelt, the fire was placed under control in approximately 1.5 hours with extensive overhaul conducted. All operations were under the direction of Chief of Department Brohm [7600]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
