Hempstead Apartment Building Fire 04/18/2023

On Tuesday, April 18th just after 11p, the Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an apartment fire on Fulton Ave. Upon arrival, fire was found on the 5th Floor of a 6-story H Type Fireproof Apartment Building and a Working Fire was transmitted. Engine 2 & Ladder 2 quickly gained access to the fire floor and extinguished the main body of fire in approximately 20 minutes utilizing the building’s standpipe. With the assistance of crews from Uniondale, Baldwin, and West Hempstead, ventilation and additional searches were conducted with no extension found. Numerous residents self-evacuated prior to FD arrival. All operations were under the direction of Chief of Department Joyce [80]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
