Oyster Bay Detached Garage Fire 09/20/2022
On Tuesday, September 20th at approximately 8:30p, the Oyster Bay & Atlantic Steamer Fire Companies were dispatched to a report of a detached garage fire on Cove Neck Rd. Oyster Bay Company 1 Chief of Department DeCarolis [5500] was quickly on scene and a Signal 10 was transmitted with heavy fire in a large detached garage close to the house. Engine 552 was first due and stretched the initial line to begin extinguishing the fire and protecting the exposures. The fire was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm due to fire conditions and limited hydrant access in the area. Tanker 5511 and Engine 557 began water shuttle operations, bringing over 10,000 gallons of water to the scene from a hydrant nearly 3/4 of a mile away. With the assistance of crews from Syosset, East Norwich, Locust Valley, Bayville and Glen Cove, the main body of fire was knocked down in under 45 minutes with extensive overhaul conducted by crews on scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
