Oyster Bay Car vs House 04/26/2015
On April 26th, 2015 at approximately 9:40pm, the Oyster Bay Fire Company #1 and Atlantic Steamer Fire Company were dispatched to a reported car into house on Capital Heights Road. Oyster Bay Fire Company #1 Assistant Chief Frank Mantegari [5504] was first on scene and found 2 damages structures from a car going through a garage and into a pillar supporting a porch overhang on the side of a house on the rear property on Locust Lane. With this report from Assistant Chief Mantegari, Atlantic Steamer Chief of Department Rob Walles [550A] requested the Technical Rescue Team (TRT) Matrix be activated.
Once on scene, Chiefs Walles and Oyster Bay Fire Company #1 Chief of Department John Bruckner [5500] established joint command of the scene. The driver of the vehicle was evaluated but did not suffer any injuries in the accident.
Upon the Arrival of Bethpage TRT and Massapequa TRT, both teams assessed the situation and determined there was no damage to the load bearing walls of the garage but the damage to the pillar of the porch overhang was significantly damaged causing instability to the overhang. It was ultimately decided to knock down the porch overhang to mitigate the situation. All crews were released from the scene within an hour.
