Locust Valley House Fire 06/03/2016

On June 3rd, 2016 at approximately 2054hrs, the Locust Valley Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic alarm on Heather Lane in Mill Hill. 1st Assistant Chief Barry [5401] and 2nd Assistant Chief Akapnitis [5402] and 3rd Assistant Chief Neumeyer [5403] quickly responded to the call and were advised that an additional call was received from a neighbor stating there was smoke coming from the house. Chiefs Barry and Neumeyer quickly arrived on scene and confirmed the smoke condition. Due to the size of the residence, Chief Barry requested Bayville to respond as a FAST. Upon initial search inside the residence, Chief Neumeyer found fire in the 2nd floor of the house and requested a Signal 10. Chief Akapnitis established command outside the house while Chiefs Barry and Neumeyer organized the interior operations. 3 lines were stretched and placed into operation but due to the location of the fire, Tower Ladder operations were begun to extinguish the fire. During Tower Ladder operations, hydrant pressure was lost and Tankers were requested from Bayville, Oyster Bay and Yaphank for Tanker Shuttle operation. Extensive Overhaul was completed by all crews on scene with fire operations taking approximately 4 hours.
