Locust Valley Brush Fire 06/16/2018

On Saturday, June 16th, at just before 1:30pm the Locust Valley Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a brush fire on the tracks in the vicinity of Meadow Ln. As Locust Valley was Hosting the 5th Battalion Parade & Drill, standby units Farmingdale Engine 924 and East Meadow Fire Department Truck 619 responded and confirmed multiple brush fires along an over 1,000ft section embankment next to the tracks. After obtaining a stop order, standby crews began stretching over 1,000ft of attack line through the woods to began extinguishing the fires. With limited water sources in the ares, mutual aid Tankers were requested from Bayville Fire Company, & the Atlantic Steamer Fire Company. East Norwich Fire Department and Glenwood Fire Company were also requested to the scene for their brush vehicles and Hicksville Engine 933 on there way to standby in Locust Valley responded to the scene as well. After clearing the tracks of a remaining train, East Norwich’s Brush Truck & Glenwood’s BRAT made their way onto the tracks to help extinguish the remaining fires. Units operated on scene for about 3 hours to extinguish the fires.
