Glen Cove Building Fire 08/24/2021
On Tuesday, August 24th at 6:55a, the Glen Cove Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a Building Fire at the VFW Hall on Hill St. Chief of Department Tate [5200] was quickly on scene and transmitted a Signal 10 for a confirmed fire in the rear of the building and heavy smoke throughout. Engine 525 was quickly on scene and stretched the initial line into the building to begin extinguishing the fire. In total, 2 lines were stretched to extinguish the main body of fire. With the assistance of crews from Sea Cliff, Locust Valley, Roslyn, East Norwich & Manhasset, the fire was placed under control in approximately 1 hour with extensive overhaul and ventilation operations conducted. Crews also removed numerous irreplaceable historical items from the building.
