Glen Cove Award Ceremony 04/30/2021

On Friday, April 30th, the City of Glen Cove and the Glen Cove Fire Department held an Awards Ceremony to honor the First Responders instrumental in rescuing 2 victims from a house fire in Glen Cove on April 23rd, 2021. On that day, the first occupant was removed from a 2nd floor window by Glen Cove Police Officers and Fire Department 2nd Assistant Chief Grella with the assistance of a ladder brought over by a neighbor. Firefighters began searches of the house for additional occupants and quickly located the second occupant on the 2nd floor and removed them via the interior staircase under the protection of a hose line from the first due engine. Both occupants were treated on scene by Glen Cove EMS whose pre-hospital care allowed the patients to be transported to the hospital where as of the ceremony, one still remains. In total, 25 first responders and 1 civilian received commendations for their actions in saving the lives of the occupants of the home.
