Ladder 223 Wetdown 01/31/2016

On January 31st, 2016, the Island Park Fire Department held a wetdown for the new Ladder 223. This 107 ft. Ferrara Ladder truck is only the 4th ladder truck to be delivered in the 90 year history of Rescue Hook & Ladder Company #1. The new 223 replaces a 25 year old Pierce 105 ft. Ladder. Taking lessons learned after recent hurricanes including Hurricane Irene and Superstorm Sandy, the Truck Committee and Ferrara worked together to design a truck that could withstand high water and flooding conditions with features including a rust-resistant undercarriage, elevated and salt water resistant electronic systems, battery operated extrication tools, and the ability to redirect the vehicle's exhaust to over 12 feet off the ground.
