Freeport House Fire 05/14/2023
On Sunday, May 14th at approximately 10:10a, the Freeport Fire Department was dispatched to a reported basement fire on Leonard Ave. 2nd Assistant Chief Sotira [2102] and Engine 216 were quickly on scene finding active fire in the basement of a 2.5 story house and a Signal 10 was transmitted. Engine 216 stretched the initial line into the basement to begin extinguishing the fire. Upon searches, window bars were found in the rear and an additional truck company was requested to the scene. The main body of fire was knocked down in approximately 15 minutes with 2 lines stretched. With the assistance of crews from Merrick, Baldwin & Roosevelt, the fire was placed under control in approximately 30 minutes under the direction of Chief of Department Collicia [2100]. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
